a unique education
The education Bachelor and Master in Industrial Sciences "Packaging Technology" is unique in Flanders. It meets the ever changing desire of companies as far as packaging and treatment of products for conservation, stock and transport is concerned.
The packaging function has profoundly changed in the last few years. Earlier on a product only had to be protected from negative influences from outside. Now environment and communication - drawing attention - have become more important. This aspect has an important influence on the packaging technology.
Investigation groups are constantly looking for solutions to technical and economical problems. Due to the approval concerning packaging waste, many companies are forced to asign the responsibility for packaging matters to an employé.
For more information concerning our education e-mail to dr. Roos Peeters or visit the website of Xios Hogeschool Limburg.
Our students not only work on short cases in cooperation with the industry, but also get the opportunity to gather a comprehensive experience during their work placement.
For a longer period, during their bachelor as well as their master, they will be confronted with the reality of company life and will learn how to deal with problems or investigationaspects, how to formulate and elaborate solutions and to report the results (verbal and written)
Students can choose from subjects that are introduced by the education board, but are also free to look for an interesting company or investigation centre. Thanks to the Packaging Centre this education has a good link with the industry.
The choice of their work placement, which is made with the expert supervision of a company- and XHL promotor, gives them a good opportunity to investigate on the packaging aspects of their choice. Design, production, machines, logistics, purchase and sale, testing, law, ... it's an endless list.
Over the last years work placements, thesis, cases and projects were executed in a large number of companies from the food- and non-foodsector (dairy, deep freeze, car, construction, chemicals, cosmetics, packaging production, contract packaging, pharmacy etc.) Some students even go abroad to fulfill their work placement or thesis. A nice start on their curriculum.
Within this education and in cooperation with the Packaging Centre, there are opportunities to work on a PHD. Not only the university but also the industrial partner play an important role in the concrete applied PHD research.
